How to notify ASIC of a new director or secretary

Source review: 2026-11-06. General procedural information, not legal or tax advice. Check the linked ASIC instructions before lodging; forms, fees and portal screens can change.

    Before you start

    • Check appointment authority under the company constitution and applicable rules.
    • Obtain the person’s written consent to act and required personal details.
    • A new director must apply for a director ID before appointment; director IDs are handled by ABRS, not an ASIC form.

    How to complete the process

    • Record the appointment and effective date in the company’s own records.
    • Sign in to the company officeholder portal and choose Start new form, then Change to company details (484).
    • Select Appoint or cease officeholder and enter the new officer’s role and details.
    • Review and submit within 28 days of the appointment; retain the confirmation.

    After lodgement or completion

    • Store the consent and appointment record and check ASIC’s officer details.

    Important limits and exceptions

A proprietary company needs at least one director ordinarily resident in Australia; appointment requirements differ for public companies. Do not treat the ASIC notification as a substitute for valid appointment authority.

    Keeping the company record complete

Keep approvals, consents, submitted documents and lodgement receipts with the entity record. EntityFlo can help organise records and supported workflows; guidance about a form does not mean EntityFlo supports direct lodgement of that form. Website FloSec cannot sign, lodge or access your private company records.
