How to change a company name with ASIC

Source review: 2026-11-06. General procedural information, not legal or tax advice. Check the linked ASIC instructions before lodging; forms, fees and portal screens can change.

    Before you start

    • Check name availability, restricted words and the proposed wording.
    • Prepare the special resolution and confirm the company’s member-approval requirements.

    How to complete the process

    • Pass and record the special resolution for the name change.
    • Open ASIC’s name-change transaction, identified online as Form 205A; Form 205 is the broader notification-of-resolution form.
    • Supply the resolution and proposed name details using the current permitted channel.
    • Lodge the name-change notification within 14 days and pay the current quoted fee.

    After lodgement or completion

    • Wait for ASIC’s confirmation before treating the registered company name as changed.
    • Update company records, agreements and correspondence to reflect the approved name.

    Important limits and exceptions

The online Form 205 transaction is for company name changes only; other Form 205 resolutions may use different channels. Changing the company name does not automatically change a separately registered business name.

    Keeping the company record complete

Keep approvals, consents, submitted documents and lodgement receipts with the entity record. EntityFlo can help organise records and supported workflows; guidance about a form does not mean EntityFlo supports direct lodgement of that form. Website FloSec cannot sign, lodge or access your private company records.
