Check that the conversion is permitted and use Forms 205 and 206 rather than Form 506.

How to change a company type with ASIC

Source review: 2026-11-06. General procedural information, not legal or tax advice. Check the linked ASIC instructions before lodging; forms, fees and portal screens can change.

    Before you start

    • Confirm the existing and proposed company types and the permitted statutory conversion.
    • Check the new officer, member and governance requirements with a qualified adviser.

    How to complete the process

    • Pass the required special resolution and record it.
    • Prepare Form 205 notification of resolution and Form 206 application for change of company type.
    • Use the current Form 206 page for the permitted lodgement channel, including its signed-PDF email instructions where applicable.
    • Track ASIC’s Gazette notice and confirmation of the completed type change.

    After lodgement or completion

    • Update governance records and obligations for the new company type after ASIC completes the change.

    Important limits and exceptions

ASIC’s how-to page describes the change occurring one month after Gazette publication. Form 506 is an external administrator’s address-change form, not a company-type form. Special-purpose company status is a separate concept.

    Keeping the company record complete

Keep approvals, consents, submitted documents and lodgement receipts with the entity record. EntityFlo can help organise records and supported workflows; guidance about a form does not mean EntityFlo supports direct lodgement of that form. Website FloSec cannot sign, lodge or access your private company records.
